Court: NY can seize property for new NJ Nets arena (AP)


ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York’s top court ruled Tuesday that the state can use eminent domain to force homeowners and businesses to sell their properties for a massive development in Brooklyn that includes a new arena for the New Jersey Nets. In a 6-1 ruling Tuesday, the Court of Appeals said the Empire State Development Corp.’s finding that the area was blighted was enough to justify taking the land.

Texas high court agrees to rehear Exxon case (AP)


DALLAS (AP) — The Texas Supreme Court on Friday said it will again hear arguments in the nearly 15-year legal battle over accusations that Exxon Mobil Corp. loaded abandoned wells with junk, sludge and even explosives to keep other companies from drilling there. The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Moves One Step Closer To Funding First Round of Research Awards (Business Wire)


AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) announced today that 403 of the nearly 900 proposals submitted are still in contention for CPRIT’s inaugural cancer research funding awards. The applications for the Individual Investigator Research Award and the High Impact/High Risk Research Award will now undergo a second, more intense peer review evaluation by seven committees over the next six weeks beginning the end of this month. CPRIT expects to announce its first funding awards in January 2010, just three months after the submission deadline.
