Sara Lee Begins Search for New CEO, as Current Chief Leaves over Health Issues (CLE)

Sara Lee Begins Search for New CEO, as Current Chief Leaves over Health Issues (CLE)

Packaged foods maker Sara Lee Corp. (SLE) on Monday announced its CEO Brenda C. Barnes will permanently step down from her position to focus on mending her health.

Barnes has been on medical leave since mid-May after suffering a stroke.

The company announced that this week it will begin searching for a new CEO. It will consider both internal and external candidates, but did not give a time frame as to when a new Chairman would be announced.

Sara Lee shares were mostly flat in premarket trading Monday.

The Bottom Line
We had removed shares of SLE from our recommended list back on Sept.22, 2008, when the stock was trading at $13.48. The company has a 2.96% dividend yield, based on Friday’s closing stock price of $14.84. The stock has technical support in the $12-$13 price area. If the shares can firm up, we see overhead resistance around the $16-$18 price levels. We would remain on the sidelines for now.

Sara Lee Corp. (SLE) is not recommended at this time, holding a Dividend.com DARS™ Rating of 3.3 out of 5 stars.
